In Their Shoes: Health Care in Armed Conflict from the Perspective of a Non-State Armed Actor

Abstract The protection of health care in armed conflict dates to the 1864 Geneva Convention. Yet violations international humanitarian law related occur on a near daily basis, and actors continue obstruct from assisting people need areas. An estimated one-third recorded threats affecting are attributed non-state (NSAAs). given that many NSAAs themselves do fact provide facilitate care, this essay considers not just as but, line with human rights law, also potential facilitators, providers, promoters care. We discuss specific case Northeast Syria, where one NSAA has de facto control territory, examine level involvement respect, protection, provision explore some opportunities challenges engagement between provision, an emphasis seeing perspective themselves.
